Through painting, I remember that being, to me, means belonging to this universe and the oceans, rocks and stars.
I first experienced this sense of belonging on an offshore sailing passage. I was on a small boat, surrounded by an all-encompassing sea and sky. At sea, you belong to the rhythm of the ocean, and time is governed by the arc of the sun. I felt my body merge with the wonder, power and awe of the natural world.
My process is rooted in observation as that keeps me connected to what is tangible, while abstraction makes space for the unseen to enter. I’m drawn to translucency as it allows for multiple states to exist, merge and reveal.
Through my paintings, I’m aiming to reveal that multiple things can be true at once and that is part of the mystery and beauty of our world.
My hope is that my paintings touch something in the depths of us.
